Jožica Škofic (4 March 1964) is a researcher in Dialectological section of the Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian Language. She investigates Slovenian dialects, with a special focus on the Upper Carniolan (Gorenjsko) dialect, dialect lexicography, dialect terminology of disappearing professions and dialect onomastics (place and house names, nicknames) as well as the history of Slovenian language. Her research focuses on geolinguistics, i. e. the preparation of the Slovenian Linguistic Atlas which encompasses: recording and phonological descriptions of local speech; linguistic analysis, comments and geolinguistic presentation of dialect lexica – she is the leader of the project Slovenian Linguistic Atlas. At the Faculty of humanities of the University of Primorska she teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in linguistics.
