Agencies of the School

The main agencies of the Postgraduate school.


1. Assembly

The Assembly is the guiding and supervisory body of the school. It is composed of three representatives of the founder, namely: the current legal representative of the founder and two other persons appointed by them, who are either employed by or in business cooperation with the founder.

2. Management Board

The Management Board is the governing body of the school. The term of office for the members of the Management Board is four (4) years, with no limitation on reappointment. The term of office for the student representative is one (1) year. If the student representative graduates or withdraws from studies during their term, their mandate expires.

In the third term, from October 28, 2021, the Management Board of the Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU is composed of:

  • Prof. Tanja Petrović, PhD, representative of the Senate;
  • Prof. Matjaž Kuntner, PhD, representative of the Assembly;
  • Asst. Prof. Aleš Smrekar, PhD, representative of the Assembly;
  • Prof. Ivan Šprajc, PhD, representative of the Academic Council and President of the Management Board;
  • Lucija Kous, representative of the students in 2023/2024.

3. Dean

The Dean leads, represents, and acts on behalf of the school. The term of office for the Dean is four years, with no limitation on reappointment. A higher education teacher involved in the educational process at the Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU can be appointed as Dean.

On May 27, 2024, the Management Board, upon the proposal of the Senate and with the consent of the Assembly, appointed Asst. Prof. Jani Kozina, PhD, as the Dean of the Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU.


4. Senate

The Senate is the highest professional body of the school, elected by the Academic Assembly. The Senate has at least nine (9) members, of which at least seven (7) are higher education teachers and scientific and professional associates elected by the Academic Assembly, and two (2) representatives of the students elected by the Student Council. The term of office for the Senate members is four years, and for the student representatives one year, with no limitation on reappointment.

The members of the Senate are:

  • Prof. Marjetka Golež Kaučič, PhD, coordinator of the module Slovenian Studies – Tradition and Modernity,
  • Prof. Aleksander Horvat, PhD, coordinator of the module Paleobiology and Sedimentary Geology,
  • Assoc. Prof. Nataša Jakop, PhD, coordinator of the module Lexicology, Lexicography, Grammar,
  • Prof. Marko Juvan, PhD, coordinator of the module Literature in Context,
  • Prof. Oto Luthar, PhD, coordinator of the module Cultural History,
  • Mitja Prelovšek, PhD, coordinator of the module Karstology,
  • Prof. Borut Telban, PhD, coordinator of the module Anthropology: Understanding World-making Practices, and
  • Tjaša Cankar, the student representatives of the school in 2023/2024
  • Lucija Mandić, the student representatives of the school in 2023/2024.

The Senate is chaired by Dean Asst. Prof. Jani Kozina, PhD.


4.1. Student Affairs Committee

The Student Affairs Committee is a working body of the Senate. The members of the Senate appoint or confirm the members of the committee at the beginning of each new school year. As of October 30, 2024, the members of the Committee are:

  • Chair: Prof. Marjetka Golež Kaučič, PhD,
  • Member: Assoc. Prof. Nataša Jakop, PhD, and
  • Member: Mitja Prelovšek, PhD.

4.2. The Habilitation Committee

The Habilitation Committee is a working body of the Senate. It is composed of:

  • Asst. Prof. Špela Goričan, PhD, member of the committee;
  • Prof. Tanja Petrović, PhD, member of the committee;
  • Prof. Jelica Šumič Riha, PhD, member of the committee;
  • Prof. Borut Telban, PhD, chair of the committee.

4.3 Komisija za kakovost

Komisija za kakovost je delovno telo senata. Mandat komisije je 4 leta, sestavljajo jo:

  • doc. dr. Rok Benčin, predsednik komisije;
  • red. prof. dr. Rado Riha,
  • Tiva Vlaj, strokovna sodelavka;
  • predstavnik študentok_ov.

5. The Academic Assembly

The Academic Assembly is composed of all teachers, researchers, and associates who are active in the school’s programs. The Academic Assembly is chaired by Prof. Borut Telban, PhD. Students are also members of the Academic Assembly.


6. Student Council

The Student Council is composed of all students of the school. The Council elects a president from among its members. The President of the Student Council for the academic year 2023/2024 is Pia Rednak.

The representatives of the students of the Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU in the school bodies for 2023/2024 are:

  • Senate: Lucija Mandić and Tjaša Cankar
  • Academic Assembly: Dorotea Pospihalj
  • Management Board: Lucija Kous.
