Assembly

The Assembly is the guiding and supervisory body of the school. It consists of three representatives of the founder, namely: the current legal representative of the founder and two other persons appointed by the representative, who are either employed by or collaborate professionally with the founder.

As of April 11, 2023, the Assembly of the Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU consists of:

  • Prof. Aleksander Horvat, PhD, appointed member and president of the Assembly;
  • Prof. Oto Luthar, PhD, legal representative of the founder;
  • Ivan Gale, appointed member as of May 16, 2024.

Management Board

The Management Board is the school’s managing body. The term of office for members of the Management Board is four (4) years, with no limit on reappointment. The term of office for the student representative is one (1) year. If the student representative completes their studies or withdraws during the term, their mandate expires.

During the third term (October 28, 2021, to October 27, 2025), the Management Board of the Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU consists of:

  • Prof. Matjaž Kuntner, PhD, representative of the Assembly;
  • Prof. Tanja Petrović, PhD, representative of the Senate;
  • Asst. Prof. Aleš Smrekar, PhD, representative of the Assembly;
  • Prof. Ivan Šprajc, representative of the Academic Assembly and president of the Management Board;
  • Lucija Kous, student representative for 2024/2025 (until September 30, 2025, or until the next student elections).

Dean

The Dean leads, represents, and acts as the public face of the school. The term of office for the Dean is four years, with no limit on reappointment. A higher education teacher involved in the educational process at the Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU may be appointed as Dean.

On May 27, 2024, the Management Board, upon the proposal of the Senate and with the consent of the Assembly, appointed Asst. Prof. Jani Kozina, PhD as the Dean of the Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU (from 27 May 2024, to 26 May 2028).

Vice-deans

With the consent of the Senate, Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jani Kozina has appointed three Vice-Deans:

  • Assoc. Prof. Nataša Jakop, PhD as Vice-Dean for Educational Activities,
  • Asst. Prof. Saša Poljak Istenič, PhD as Vice-Dean for Research and Innovation Activities,
  • Prof. Simona Kralj Fišer, PhD as Vice-Dean for International Activities.

The term of the Vice-Deans is aligned with the term of the Dean and lasts from November 13, 2024, to May 26, 2028.

Senate

In accordance with Article 28 of the Statute of the Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU, the Senate is the highest professional body of the Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU, elected by the Academic Assembly.

The Senate consists of at least nine (9) members, of which at least seven (7) are higher education teachers, researchers, and professional staff elected by the members of the Academic Assembly, excluding student representatives. Additionally, there are student representatives elected by the Student Council, with students constituting at least one-fifth of the Senate members.

The Senate is composed of higher education teachers, ensuring equal representation of all key areas of work of the Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU, as specified in the school’s statute, with balanced representation of all scientific fields within these areas as well as the school’s professional fields.


The members of the Senate elected by the Academic Assembly on October 8, 2024, are:

  • Asst. Prof. Rok Benčin, PhD, representative of the module Transformations of Modern Thought – Philosophy, Psychoanalysis, Culture (3rd cycle);
  • Asst. Prof. Matjaž Gregorič, PhD, representative of the modules Biodiversity, Ecology, and Evolution (2nd cycle) and Biodiversity and Ecology (3rd cycle);
  • Asst. Prof. Jernej Habjan, PhD, representative of the module Literature in Context (3rd cycle);
  • Assoc. Prof. Nataša Jakop, PhD, representative of the module Lexicology, Lexicography, Grammar (3rd cycle) and Vice-Dean for Educational Activities;
  • Iva Kosmos, PhD, Research Associate, representative of the module Cultural History (3rd cycle);
  • Uroš Kranjc, PhD, Research Associate, representative of the module Interdisciplinary Study of Institutions and Society of the 21st Century (3rd cycle);
  • Erik Logar, PhD, Research Assistant, representative of the module Human Geography (3rd cycle) and the module Regional Studies (3rd cycle);
  • Asst. Prof. Andrea Martín Pérez, PhD, representative of the modules Paleobiology and Sedimentary Geology (2nd and 3rd cycle);
  • Assoc. Prof. Mirjam Milharčič Hladnik, PhD, representative of the module Slovenian Studies – Tradition and Modernity (3rd cycle);
  • Mitja Prelovšek, PhD, Research Associate, representative of the module Karstology (2nd cycle);
  • Assoc. Prof. Benjamin Štular, PhD, representative of the module Millennia Between the Adriatic and the Danube (3rd cycle);
  • Prof. Borut Telban, PhD, representative of the module Anthropology: Understanding World-Making Practices (3rd cycle).

The student representatives elected by the Student Council for 2024/2025 (until the next elections) are:

  • Tjaša Cankar, PhD student in the Comparative Study of Ideas and Cultures, module Cultural History;
  • Lovrenc Rogelj, PhD student in the Comparative Study of Ideas and Cultures, module Transformations of Modern Thought – Philosophy, Psychoanalysis, Culture;
  • Manca Koren, PhD student in the Comparative Study of Ideas and Cultures, module Cultural History.

In addition to the members elected by the Academic Assembly, the following are also ex officio members of the Senate:

  • Prof. Simona Kralj Fišer, PhD, Vice-Dean for International Activities;
  • Prof. Oto Luthar, PhD, President of the Academic Assembly;

The Senate’s Secretary also participates in the work of the Senate, without voting rights. The term of office for Senate members is four years, while for student representatives it is one year, with no restriction on reappointment.

Study Affairs Committee

The Study Affairs Committee is a working body of the Senate. Members of the Senate appoint or confirm the members of the committee at the beginning of each new academic year. The committee’s term is 4 years. The members of the Study Committee for the upcoming 4-year period (21 October 2024, to 20 October 2028) are:

  • Assoc. Prof. Nataša Jakop, PhD, member of the committee;
  • Assoc. Prof. Mirjam Milharčič Hladnik, PhD member of the committee;
  • Mitja Prelovšek, PhD, Research Fellow, chair of the committee.

Habilitation Committee

The Habilitation Committee is a working body of the Senate. The committee’s term is 4 years. The members of the Habilitation Committee for the upcoming 4-year period (21 October 2024, to 20 October 2028) are:

  • Asst. Prof. Špela Goričan, PhD, member of the committee;
  • Prof. Tanja Petrović, PhD, member of the committee;
  • Prof. Borut Telban, PhD, chair of the committee.

Quality Committee

The Quality Committee is a working body of the Senate. The committee’s term is 4 years, except for the student representative, whose term is one year (until 30 September 2025, or until the next student elections). The members of the Quality Committee for the upcoming 4-year period (21 October 2024, to 20 October 2028) are:

  • Asst. Prof. Rok Benčin, PhD, Chair of the Committee and representative of higher education teachers;
  • Asst. Prof. Nataša Gregorič Bon, PhD, representative of higher education teachers;
  • Tiva Vlaj, professional staff member;
  • Luka Benedičič, student representative for 2024/2025

Academic Assembly

The Academic Assembly consists of all higher education teachers, researchers, and collaborators actively involved in the school’s programs. The President of the Academic Assembly of the Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU for the 4-year term is Prof. Oto Luthar, PhD, elected by the Assembly on 8 October 2024. The members of the Academic Assembly also include students.


Student Council

The Student Council consists of all the students of the school. The Council elects its president from among its members. The President of the Student Council for the 2024/2025 academic year is Pia Rednak.

The student representatives of the Postgraduate School ZRC SAZU in the school’s bodies for 2024/2025 are:

  • Senate: Tjaša Cankar, Lovrenc Rogelj, Manca Koren, and ex officio member Pia Rednak, President of the Student Council.
