Second-cycle Bologna degree in the relevant track or a university (level VII) degree

Content (Syllabus outline):

• Theoretical backgrounds for the social impact assessment studies;
• What are the social impacts on individual and collective levels (neighbourhood, local community, region)
• Methods and techniques of the social impact assessment;
• Ex ante and ex post social impact assessment;
• Values and interests in social impact assessment ;
• The role of the (affected) citizens in social impact assessment;
• Social impact assessment case studies at local and regional levels;
• Megaprojects and their social impacts on local and regional levels

Objectives and competences:

Students will acquire the knowledge on various social impacts brought about with build interventions in different social environments. The disregard of the possible desired and above all non-desired social impacts may harm local and regional development. Students will learn the approaches, methodologies and techniques of ex-ante and ex post assessments of the social impacts.

Intended learning outcomes:

• Students will be able to recognise various social impacts brought about by build interventions into local and regional environments;
• They will be able to integrate social impact assessments into regional and developmental planning;
• By participating in particular case studies they will acquire basic experiences for further activities in the field of regional development.
