  • Numerical and conceptual models of speleogenesis and morphogenesis in karst;
  • Cave microclimate, importance and transport of CO2 in karst systems;
  • Hydraulics of karst channels;
  • The transfer of heat, passage of flood waves, and the transport of substances through the conductive structures of karst systems;
  • The physics and chemistry of processes in karst.


Research visits:

  • University of Bremen (1997-2000, doctoral study), 2000-2004, six months of extended stays.
  • Up to one moth long study visits in China, Iran, Brasil, and USA.

Other:

He (co)authored 60 original and review scientific papers and five scientific monographs. His most important work is a monograph Processes of speleogenessis : a modelling approach, published by ZRC Publishing in 2005. The book presents the most comprehensive review of numerical modelling of early speleogenesis. He supervised five doctoral students; they developed new methods of observing and modelling the dynamics of underground waters, new numerical models of the evolution of karst aquifers, and models of the sources, transport and sinks of carbon dioxide in karst.

 

He has been editor-in-chief of the journal Acta Carsologia since 2011. He is the chairman of the expert council of the Škocjan Caves Park and an associate member of Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts since 2015.
